Blog-worthy ...

So ... woke up today for the usual routine ... walk dogs, get dressed, go to work ...

On my way out the door of my apartment, I stop in my tracks to observe the smoke filled hallway and say ... "holy sh-t" Steve's annoyed by my comment and grumbles "what?" We both look down the hallway. We knock on every door and there's no answer - seems like everyone left for work already. We decide to contact the super (who now happens to be on vacation), then the management office, where the brain-dead accountant says she'll tell the landlady when she gets in and not to worry and go to work. Let's see, we can smell something burning, there's a smoke-filled hallway = I shouldn't worry, just get on with the day. BRILLIANT!!~!

I check the floor below and the floor above - nothing - means the smoke conditions originate from our floor and it hasn't burned through to the next level yet. Steve calls the landlady at home, hoping they've assigned someone, close to the building, with keys to the apartments, in the super's absence. She says she'll - send what was it? The painters? electrician? plumber? As I eavesdrop on the conversation, I scream "hang up on that idiot and call the fire department!"

Within minutes, we are greeted by 4 trucks full of firemen. They ripped open the apartment door and removed breakfast from the stove. Luckily the situation did not escalate. Just imagine.

ahhhh ... on a lighter note ...
